The quickest way to plan a first trip to Morocco

Morocco rewards a slower itinerary. Marrakech, Fes, the Atlantic coast, the Atlas and the Sahara look close on a map, but road and rail journeys take a meaningful part of the day. Pick two or three bases for a one-week trip; save a cross-country route for ten days or more.

Our guides separate the decisions you need to make before booking from the details you can leave until arrival: how many days to allow, which journeys work by train, when a private transfer is useful, and what seasonal conditions change the experience.

01

Choose the length first

Seven days is enough for one major city plus the coast or Atlas. Two weeks gives you time to connect the imperial cities with the Sahara without turning every other day into a transfer.

02

Match the route to the season

Conditions vary across cities, coast, desert and mountains. Check current heat, wind, rain, snow, sea warnings and route access for the exact dates.

03

Check the transport gaps

Trains link Tangier, Rabat, Casablanca, Fes and Marrakech. Essaouira, Agadir, Chefchaouen and Merzouga need a bus, taxi, transfer or car for at least part of the journey.

How this guide is put together

FanGuideMorocco is an independent editorial site. Changeable details such as transport, entry rules, prices and opening arrangements are checked against the relevant operator, government source or responsible organisation. Every article shows when it was published and last reviewed, and planning judgements are separated from confirmed facts.

Meet the editor and read the editorial policy or send a correction if something has changed since a guide was checked.
